Born in South Africa and raised in the vibrant coastal city of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Quin Rutherford’s life has always been defined by a deep, unwavering connection to the wild places of Africa. From an early age, the call of the bush was stronger than the pull of city life. This passion drove him to pursue formal studies in Nature Conservation, Adventure, and Nature Training through the Advanced Course, laying a rock-solid foundation for a career dedicated to sharing Africa’s raw beauty with others.

Quin’s guiding journey began in the legendary Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park, where he spent four immersive years honing his craft. Interpreting the intricate language of the bush and creating unforgettable encounters for guests became second nature. Seeking new horizons, he then spent two years guiding in the vast, soul-stirring Kalahari, mastering the unique rhythms of desert-adapted wildlife and the dramatic, wide-open landscapes that define this iconic region.

It was during the next chapter, two years freelancing with a respected overlanding operator, that Quin truly found his calling. Traversing Southern Africa’s remote tracks, he fell completely in love with the freedom, self-reliance, and deeper connection to the continent that only true overlanding delivers. This hands-on experience across diverse terrains, cultures, and wilderness areas shaped his vision for Peak Overland.Co: small-group, expertly led self-drive expeditions that combine the thrill of adventure with the security of professional guidance.
