Route Overview
From the dusty plains outside Pofadder, this 9-day journey follows the life-giving Orange River through one of South Africa's most remote and breathtaking wilderness areas. Starting at Charlie's Pass on the iconic Namakwa Eco Trail, the route winds along the river's edge, connecting hand-picked campsites that offer everything from peaceful riverside swims to dramatic mountain-desert scenery in the Richtersveld National Park. It's the perfect balance of moderate 4x4 driving, spectacular canyon views, golden-hour magic on the water, and real remoteness without ever feeling rushed, a soul-soothing meander where the Orange River becomes your constant companion. What's included
Professional Guide
A dedicated, experienced Peak Overland guide accompanies the group for the entire journey - leading the convoy, sharing local knowledge, and looking after safety and enjoyment.
Namakwa Eco Trail Permit
Full access permit for the entire Namakwa Eco Trail, opening this exclusive, pristine wilderness route along the Orange River.
Richtersveld National Park Entry
All conservation and park entrance fees, so you can fully experience the mountain-desert landscape without extra cost.
What's excluded
Personal Vehicle & Fuel
A 4x4 with good ground clearance is strongly recommended for the full route; fuel is for your own account. (A vehicle can be arranged if you don't have one.)
Own Food & Beverages
You're responsible for your own meals and drinks outside the two group dinners and two group lunches provided.
Personal Equipment
Tent, sleeping bag, mattress, camping chairs, cooking equipment and personal items.
All Campsite Fees
Every night pre-booked and paid for along the route - including the sought-after camps at Ramansdrift, Kamgab, Grocery Camp and De Hoop.
2 Group Dinners
A welcome dinner on night one, and a second dinner halfway through the trip
